OUR HISTORY

Let’s take a whirlwind trip through the history of NDML...

NDML is not only the leading specialist insurance broker for the
night-time industry. We’re also one of the longest standing.

We’re immensely proud of all we’ve achieved in the last 20 years,
and excited to see where the next few decades will take us.

1998

Nightclub Direct & Millennium Leisure Ltd is born

Our founder, Justin Romero-Trigo, creates Nightclub Direct & Millennium Leisure Ltd from an office above
a bookmaker in Horsforth, Leeds.

1999

Nightclub Direct & Millennium Leisure take on their first staff member

Venues are realising that we can offer something that non-specialists can’t. The business starts to hire staff, including some who are still with us today!

2002

Nightclub Direct & Millennium Leisure move into a new office building

Nightclub Direct & Millennium Leisure has already outgrown our premises. We knew the office above
the bookmakers wasn’t going to be our forever home,
so we’re moving down the road in Horsforth to a much bigger office building.

2003

We become NDML

Nightclub Direct & Millennium Leisure
is becoming a bit of a mouthful so we
shorten it to simply ‘NDML’.

2012

A rebrand

As we build to becoming one of the leading specialist brokers to the night-time industry, we decide that a hand-drawn logo just won’t cut it anymore. We create a new logo and modernise the brand.

2017

NDML partners with the NTIA

NDML partners with the NTIA (Night Time
Industries Association), one of the industry’s
biggest lobby groups.

2018

The 20th anniversary

NDML celebrates 20 years of treating customers exceptionally. We celebrate with a party and a promise that the next 20 years will bring more of the same.

2019

Insurance Times Awards

We win big at the Insurance Times Awards, taking home the award for Excellence in Professional Development.
It’s the cherry on the cake for a year that’s seen us
partner with We Are Wellbeing and launch a new
wellbeing programme to support our team.

2020

Supporting Venues

Throughout the pandemic, we worked closely with the NTIA and FCA to mount a legal challenge on behalf of venues. The case on business interruption went to the Supreme court and resulted in a successful verdict, giving hundreds of venues a lifeline.
We also penned an open letter to the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, lobbying the founding of a crisis insurance fund for nighttime businesses.

2024

Published the Night Time Economy Report 2024

The third in it’s series, the Night Time Economy report is invaluable intelligence, a useful aid for NTA members and partners who are advocating for essential support.

The Night Time Economy Report was hand delivered to 10 Downing Street.
