3 steps to receive your 2022 Nightclub Grant

2022 Omicron Hospitality Grants for Nightclubs

The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant scheme is a one-off grant designed to support hospitality, leisure and accommodation business premises. Businesses can be awarded up to £6,000 in support from the start of this year. This is in recognition of the Omicron variant currently sweeping the nation – and as nightclubs and hospitality venues see lower numbers than normal whilst remaining open, the government has made moves to counteracts this. Little or large, nightclub owners should know of the availability of this grant and the steps they need to take to receive a nightclub grant.

1. Check the eligibility requirements for hospitality grant funding

Businesses that are eligible for funding include:

  • businesses on the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) ratings list
  • that offer in-person services
  • where the main service and activity takes place in a fixed rate-paying premises
  • in the hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors

Do all these points apply to you and your business?

A hospitality business can be defined as a business whose main function is to provide a venue for the consumption and sale of food and drink. A leisure business can be defined as a business that provides opportunities, experiences and facilities, in particular for culture, recreation, entertainment, celebratory events and days and nights out. An accommodation business can be defined as a business whose main lodging provision is used for holiday, travel or other purposes.

Previous guidance for the Additional Restrictions Grant indicated that businesses must have been trading before 30th December in order to be eligible. This is no longer the case. All businesses that are trading and meet other eligibility criteria may apply to receive funding under this scheme. There is no starting date from which businesses must have been trading in order to qualify for grant funding.

2. Find out how much money you could receive from the Omicron Hospitality Grant.

The amount of funding you receive depends on the rateable value of your premises. Businesses are able to receive one grant per premises. Businesses with a rateable value of:

  • exactly £15,000 or under on 30 December 2021 will receive a payment of £2,667.
  • over £15,000 and less than £51,000 on 30 December 2021 will receive a payment of £4,000.
  • exactly £51,000 or over on 30 December 2021 will receive a payment of £6,000.

The rateable value of a business property is calculated by a valuation officer and concerns the annual rental value of commercial property.

The government will fully reimburse all local authorities to the sum of 90% the grant offer. The grant is taxable and payments to businesses will fall into the 2021/22 tax year.
